Homemaker’s Diary
This is what I accomplished at home today between the hours of 9am and 1pm- keep in mind, we have no running hot water so I have to wait at least 5 minutes for water to heat any time I need some:
Walked to post box down the street. One load of laundry, washed, dried and put away. Juicer and all juicer parts hand washed, dried and put away. Two loads of dishes hand washed, dried and put away. Showered and dressed. Removed nail polish. Made 2 and half cups of homemade coconut milk (shredded coconut and hot water mixed in blender and strained through clean nylons). Swept outdoor rug. Swept cobwebs off of motorhome. Updated autopay for transit card and storage unit. Paid bills online. Cleaned and sanitized kitchen sink. Started potatoes in crock pot. Checked email and facebook (ten minutes total).
I am stopping for lunch. I honestly am just eating in a simpler way today because I don’t want to make more dishes, I still have to clean up from making the coconut milk. Later I will do those dishes, vacuum the floor and clean out my teapot, do my physical therapy exercises and take my prescribed 30 minute walk. All this work will amount to more than six hours. Six hours is my regular workday at the school.
Today’s meals
Breakfast- 8:30am: Breakfast burritos (tortilla, duck egg, black beans, baked purple potato, melted provolone, sea salt); Tea/Coffee.
Snack- 11:00am: Golden milk (turmeric and black pepper stirred into warm homemade coconut milk; three squares of dark chocolate.
Lunch- 1pm: 16oz yesterday’s fresh veggie juice (purple and orange carrot, beets, beet greens, cucumber); one medium apple. 1:30pm- smashed purple potatoes with olive oil, butter and sea salt; 8oz lemon water.
Dinner (planned): tri-color quinoa and carne asada with caramelized onions; green salad; 8oz lemon-mint water
Dessert (planned): honey-vanilla yogurt, bananas, sunflower seed butter, and honey; herbal tea
Who can say homemakers are lazy? I will defend this profession to the death. My husband has clean clothes for work tomorrow and healthy delicious food and beverages to come home to, our home is neat and clean, bills are promptly paid, and he has a happy, cheerful wife who still has energy left over to enjoy a peaceful evening with him. And I hardly sat for more than ten minutes at a time. I feel energized, whereas my school job leaves me exhausted physically and mentally, although I’ve been active today for the exact same amount of time.
The best difference is that my back doesn’t hurt, because I can go at a safer and healthier pace when I am working in my home. And I didn’t have that expensive and arduous commute, nor the stress of having to accomplish things by a certain time. I won’t have the home chores to accomplish on top of my regular workday, and my husband won’t have to worry about helping me with that either. He works physically harder than I do, either way. Today, I was my own boss and was even more productive. I’ve not been lonely, as I’ve been text messaging my sister and two of my friends as I work- about the same amount of text messaging which is necessary among staff at my school job.
I am fortunate this month to enjoy my homemaking job. I will return to the school job in September, and I am not looking forward to it. I pray that time will go slowly as I savor my beautiful days at home.
